ah, unrequited–
wandering empty hallways
filled with no other
filled with – haiku

This haiku is actually better than I first thought, myself. When I first wrote it, I had something in mind, rather specific.
But I read it now, with just a little distance myself, and notice that the haiku has a very interesting quality as it builds, and comes to that last line. The last line was supposed to be ironic, and even paradoxical. But as I read it now, it is even more paradoxically interesting that I’d hoped. This may be in my mind only. I’m not sure.
I like this. I read it yesterday, when I took a break from writing. I read it again this morning, and just now. Only now do I see it. I have long felt we often have to be ready for certain writings. I remember trying to read Twain’s Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court in some middle school grade. I couldn’t get past the first chapter, and put it away. The next year I tried again, read it straight through in one sitting and have loved it ever since. Timing and maturity.
